SBU Welcomes Dr. Scott Moats as the new Executive Vice President for Administration and Chief Business Officer

Dr. Scott MoatsSouthwest Baptist University has named Dr. Scott Moats as Executive Vice President for Administration and Chief Business Officer. In addition to overseeing SBU’s administrative operations, fiscal management, and risk assessment, Dr. Moats will serve as a senior advisor to the President.

“Christian higher education is facing strong headwinds,” said Moats. “In this time of change and turbulence, we have opportunities to make unprecedented changes. I am looking forward to joining the SBU team for this time in its history. We stand on the shoulders of those who come before us. Our task is to take what they have left us and contextualize it for today. I look forward to journeying together in the days ahead.”

 Moats comes to SBU with over three decades of experience in higher education, having previously served in faculty or leadership roles at Crown College (MN), Azusa Pacific University (CA), and Bethel University (MN). He also serves as a consultant, evaluator, and accreditation liaison officer for the Higher Learning Commission.

Moats earned a PhD in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from Crown College (MN), as well as a MDiv from Alliance Theological Seminary (Nyack, NY). In addition to his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Moats has earned graduate degrees in curriculum and instruction and educational policy and administration.

Moats will serve as part of the Executive Cabinet and assumes his role as the Executive Vice President for Administration and Chief Business Officer on January 3, 2023. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Scott Moats.
